Guisborough 3 peaks walk. Roseberry Topping, Hanging Stone and Highcliff Nab.

Yesterday afternoon was the perfect day for walking.  Zara and I found ourselves in the North East and decided to give this walk a try.  I had seen it on a Facebook post and thought it looked good.

The walk started on a wellness trail with signs from Forestry England.  Zara found the concept quite amusing.  We were walking on a great path through the woods and steadily climbing.

Then we rounded a bend and Roseberry Topping came into view.  Roseberry Topping is a steep sided hill, it looks like the perfect mini mountain from a distance.

Roseberry Topping in the distance.  Zara said she didn’t sign up for mountain walking.
The approach to Roseberry Topping.  It has well defined paths up there.  It’s a relatively quick walk probably taking maybe 15 minutes.  It’s difficult to gage as I wasn’t timing and had my head down trying not to trip.  There’s a good number of switchbacks though as it’s steep.

The summit was well defined and it looked like half of the North East was having lunch up there.  I was very happy as there was a trig point.

Roseberry Topping trig point.  I’ve never seen a trig point carved with graffiti before.

After staying at the summit for about 5 minutes ( long enough to eat a doughnut and take some pictures) we walked back down the way we came and followed the Cleveland Way which took us up another hill.

Look back as Roseberry Topping as we were walking up towards Newton Moor

A slight detour off the Cleveland Way took us to Hanging Stone.  It was quite a cool lookout point

Hanging stone.  It was nice being able to see the sea in the distance

We then returned to the Cleveland Way and followed this all the way up to Highcliff Nab.  The sun was shining and it was a lovely walk.  There has been some work in this path and the boggy bits were all slabbed over which made for an easy walk.

We came to Highcliff Nab which was really cool and had amazing views out over Guisborough and Redcar.

From there it was an easy walk downhill into Hutton Village and back to the car.

A great way to spend an afternoon.

The walk was 12.49km and this is the route we followed on OS maps https://explore.osmaps.com/route/24926173/Guisborough-3-Peaks-Roseberry-Topping-Hanging-Stone-Highcliff-Nab
