This weekend’s walk was around Thruscross reservoir. Thruscross seems to be one of the lesser walked reservoirs in the Washburn valley. It’s just north-West of Fewston Reservoir and the Yorkshire water parking permit also lets you park at Thruscross. If you want to walk away from the crowds this is the one for you.
The walk comes in at 8.3km and the terrain is a lot more varied than walking around Swinsty and Fewston.

You walk down one side of the reservoir then instead of coming down the waters edge you steadily climb up to some farm land and then onto moor land. There are some awful stiles along this section of path. If you have a large dog it’s not getting over one of them and would need to be carried.

As you follow the trail you come to a steep decline to a small stream and a steep incline back up. It’s just enough to get you sweating but there are some great rocks for playing on when you get to the top.

Following the path you then drop back down to the reservoir and it’s just about 1.5km back to the car park.
A great walk lasting less than 3 hours and only 30 minutes drive from Leeds (dependent on where you live in Leeds of course).
